All Natural Cleaning with Essential Oils!

All Natural Cleaning with Essential Oils!

Double Duty Awesomness = Making your own cleaning supplies with essential oils!  Save Money and Eliminate Chemicals.  Why wouldn’t you want to do this!  I actually caught my little one chewing on the top of one of my smaller glass bottles of cleaner (from Amazon)…  no call to poison control! In fact, he may have just boosted his own immune system lol I tried to use the All Purpose Cleaner that I’m about to tell you about for my furniture.. and it really didn’t work that great.  So it really is necessary to have both.  No big deal though, they’re both super easy to make and you most likely already have the ingredients in your pantry!

All-Purpose Cleaner:

  1. 6oz water
  2. 2oz white vinegar
  3. 12 drops Young Living Orange Essential Oil
  4.  6 drops Young Living Lemon Essential Oil

Orange and Lemon are obviously both citrus oils and have awesome antiseptic properties. I have fun with this mix and substitute different oils (with antiseptic properties) such as Thieves, Lavender, Grapefruit, etc.  Right now I’m using Thieves and Orange essential oils and am really loving that aroma!  Just check out how great Thieves is at killing germs:

I use this All Purpose Cleaner on everything that is not made of wood.  So, bathrooms, kitchens, walls, toys, mirrors…. Side note about mirrors:  Not only is this completely streak free, but it actually prevents your mirror from steam fogging!

Furniture Polish:

  1. 1/2 cup Olive Oil
  2. 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) – If you don’t know much about ACV, do a quick Pinterest search, it’ll change your life.
  3. 16 drops Young Living Lemon or Orange Essential Oil

This polish smells great and leaves my wood looking shiny and new.  Also great on my leather furniture!

Side note about this mix:  The olive oil in here makes this mix pretty viscous/thick… so it clogged my regular sprayer.  I found the one I’m currently using at Target, but I’m sure they’re found anywhere.  It’s high-flow for thicker sprays.

***Use glass bottles (this is the one I use) to store your cleaner because essential oils can erode plastic over time making your mix not so nontoxic anymore.  I bought these on Amazon.

***Shake the bottle before use to correct any natural separation of your ingredients.

Stop losing sleep over runny noses!

Stop losing sleep over runny noses!

It’s that time of year.  Weather is changing from day to day, hour to hour even… and the effects of that are seen most in our children’s noses! (and if you’re like me, your face is pretty congested too :/).  So a daytime runny nose is gross and annoying. We can deal with that!  But a night time runny nose?? The baby can’t lay flat, the toddler is sniffling non-stop, lack of oxygen wakes them up SO DARN FREQUENTLY, baby can’t use their pacifier, our World. Simply. Sucks.  I’ve made some congestion mixes before and even used a congestion bath (that bath worked great, but who can sleep in the bath?).  But this little combo here has been miraculous.  Not just a one time miracle… the baby has not made a peep until at LEAST 3am, sometimes even 6AM, for the LAST FOUR NIGHTS!  Holy mother of God, what have I stumbled upon.  I believe that the answer to that is R.C.  This is the newest addition to my collection and I wonder why it’s taken so long to come to me lol it’s only like 10 bucks.  Anyways, I put two drops each of Young Living Thieves, Lavender, and R.C. into the diffuser at bedtime and let that puppy run.  When it runs out a few hours later, I’ve been filling it with more plain water.  The thought process here is that maybe the water will pick up some of the residual oils as well as provide some humidification… and background noise too 🙂 Here’s a great visual on my newest beloved R.C.:

DIY Whitening Mouthwash!

DIY Whitening Mouthwash!

Good morning friends!! It’s a snow day here in North Carolina (which means we got a dusting of snow and some ice and the city shut down)… which compels me to make things with essential oils and mason jars!  Its my kind of SAHM type fun lol 🙂  Mouthwash sounded like a great DIY!  We haven’t bought it in years because it’s so expensive for something you just spit out.. not to mention full of all kinds of ingredients I can’t pronounce, let alone desire in my mouth.  So, I came across a Pinterest recipe for some DIY mouthwash.  It called for salt as the medium to dissolve the oils.  I followed that, but the salty taste was REALLY unpleasant.  So I adjusted the recipe and used baking soda as the medium for the essential oils and it is fantastic!

Baking Soda for mouth care:

1.  Balances levels of acid to help treat and prevent halitosis

2.  Discourages the formation of plaque to help prevent gum disease.

3.  Promotes healing to soothe ulcers and sores

4.  An effective whitening agent to help remove stains from the teeth

Young Living Thieves Essential Oil (lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, cloves, rosemary):

Whiter teeth, healthy gums, prevents halitosis, heals cold sores and fever blisters, and increases energy!

Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil:

Whitening, refreshing, antibacterial, and minty fresh smell!

** At only a few cents per drop, my half pint jar of mouthwash only cost me about 88 cents to make.  And I feel completely safe and happy using it!

TO MAKE:

1.  Put 1 teaspoon of baking soda into your jar.  Add 4 drops of Thieves EO and 5 drops of Peppermint EO.

2.  Add one cup of water.  Replace lid and shake.  Done!

** You can adjust the number of drops of your oils as you prefer.  Thieves is more cinnamon-like and peppermint is, of course, more minty! I personally like the minty-ness, so I went more Peppermint heavy 🙂

Enjoy!! and feel free to leave a comment or question!
