101 Real Ways that Real People use the Young Living Starter Kit!

101 Real Ways that Real People use the Young Living Starter Kit!

Hi Oilers!! Have you seen pins and posts floating around that rattle off lots of ways to use your essential oils? Well we have!! We noticed that they are pretty much just laundry list of things… and we take maybe one or two ideas away from it all.  So instead of just doing a google search and making a blog post of 101 possible ways to use essential oils, we have compiled our own REAL ways of how we REALLY use our oils every day!  Each use has been taken from our group Oils and Us on Facebook.  I even gave credit and wrote direct quotes from the shares 🙂

One of the best ways to decide how to use your oils is by asking a trusted peer for their success story.  We ask for these stories every day in our Facebook group!  If you are still thinking of joining Oils and Us and getting your own starter kit, we hope that this post gives you the inspiration you need to make the change! The NEW Premium Start Living Kit from Young Living comes with 11 different 5ml bottles of essential oils:  Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint, Frankincense, Purification, Panaway, Thieves, RC, DiGize, Copaiba, and the bonus Stress Away! It also comes with a diffuser, a bunch of samples, learning materials, a Young Living membership, a 24% discount on all future products, and the right to distribute if you feel like you want to!  <<< Why our team is a great one to join! >>

79.  I started using it for headaches after a friend recommended it while I was breastfeeding and it worked great! – Brittni

80.  I used RC over my chest before my workout today.  Allergies have settled in my chest and I thought between that and the cardio, I might suffocate! I was able to breathe deep and good and happily make it through! – Angela

81.  The game changer for my infants stuffy nose… you can read about that Here in THIS blog! Just click! 🙂 – Me

DiGize:  Blend of:   tarragon, ginger, fennel, peppermint, lemongrass, anise, juniper, patchouli.  (Antiparastic, Antinausea, Kidney & bladder support, Supports digestion, Carminative, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Anti-inflammatory, Prevents fermentation)

82. DiGize has been one of the most used oils in our house! My husband suffers from horrible stomach problems and my kids like to eat way to much! I also have a 1 year old whom I have used it on to help with gas. My husband has been the hardest to convince and has yet to admit this actually works but he seems to keep coming back and asking for a pill when his tummy acts up 😉

The ways we use DiGize in our home
83.   My husband & I take a vegetable capsule with 3-6 drops for upset stomachs.
84.   I made a rub of 5 tsp coconut oil & 5 drops DiGize for when any of my kids (including the 1 y/o) has an upset stomach, rub it right on their tummies.
85.  I rub the coconut mix on the back of my neck when I feel nauseous.
86.  I use the mix on my baby’s tummy for when he has gas pains.
-87.  We luckily haven’t experienced this since I started oils but as soon as one of us starts throwing up, DiGize will be my go to oil!

**82-87 is an example of an oil review that we like to do frequently in our Facebook group, Oils and Us.  Thank you Michelle for this one!

COPIABA (Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory, Antibacterial, Antiseptic, Stimulant)

88.  the most powerful anti inflammatory. I mix it with lemon grass and it’s good for tendons and ligaments. – Carolyn

89.  “copaiba intensifies the effects of the oils that its mixed with” – Angela

90.  I add to an epsom salt bath with Panaway for whole body pain. – Julie

91.  We do copaiba on the injection site after vaccines – Elissa

92.  Copaiba for muscle soreness and pain relief! – Brianna

DIFFUSER TRICKS – because you get a diffuser with your starter kit! Aroma = best way to use Aromatherapy! 🙂

93.  Diffuse lemon for an hour to make cleaning your diffuser a breeze! – Angela

94.  Pour a splash of white vinegar into your diffuser and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then use the vinegar and your sponge to clean it out. Dump out the vinegar and you’re good to go. – Brianna

95.  If your diffuser stops working, let it sit for a day to dry out. Chances are some water got into the air vent hole and it just needs to dry. – Sara

96.  Home diffuser: if you hold down the ON button for 2 seconds, the illumination will turn off so that it doesn’t keep the husband up at night. Hit the button again and it the light will turn back on – Jessie

97.  If you REALLY want to make a lifestyle change with essential oils then ongoing education and support are key! Oils and Us is there with a quick and knowledgeable response for you every time!

98.  99% of the time… dilute!  One drop per TSP of carrier oil for Adults, One drop per TBSP of carrier oil for little ones.  EOs are Volatile and Lipid soluble.  Diluting is not only safe, but makes your oils evaporate slower and absorb better 🙂

99.  Just ask!  Ask your sponsor, ask your group, consult a reference guide… but know what you’re doing.  Essential oils WILL work if you work them correctly and safely.

100.  Essential oils have many different properties.  This makes them good at several different things at once such as Peppermint being great for Energy AND pain! Along those lines, remember everyone is different.  And everyone will react differently.  Peace & Calming keeps my kids awake, but it puts everyone else’s to sleep.  Peppermint is my go to for energy, but lemon is my mom’s choice.  Tea tree oil is best for my skin, but Rachel loves the citruses.  Bottom line, be open minded and try something else.  You’ve got lots of choices in your starter kit!

101.  Have Fun!  Experimenting, engaging, learning, and using essential oils is a new adventure!  Every little success is so exhilarating!  and it feels SO good to have these useful tools right at home.  Your new life change can also be your new hobby, your new source of financial income, and your link to lots more new friends!

WHEW!! and there you have it! 101 REAL ways that REAL people use their essential oils every day.  And there are still So many more ways to use that we are still discovering in Oils and Us.  If you like this post, be sure to follow our blog for more! and please join us in our Facebook group and be a part of the discussion 🙂  If you are ready to join with a premium starter kit, or any of the other awesome starter kits, you can do that <<<< HERE!! >>>  Happy Oiling!!

Being “Husband Lonely”

Being “Husband Lonely”

Something that a friend said to me the other day has been really on my mind.  Maybe it’s because she said it so casually, like it wasn’t that big of a deal.  We were commenting about how to work while having small children and she said:  “My hubby works 1st shift and I work 3rd so we don’t need daycare or a babysitter! Granted it’s hard but it works for the best so the kids are always with us!” In my little Army bubble I constantly catch myself feeling lonely or frustrated at the fact that my husband is so busy all the time. But outside of the military, families have this same struggle.  Health care workers, police, fire department, jobs that travel, opposite shifts, husbands who work multiple jobs and so on…. As a wife in these situations, we miss our husbands! I mean, that’s great though, right!? It would probably be a bigger problem if we didn’t miss them, right!?

Well anyways, Eric is about to start Trauma II in his SOCM course.  I’ve heard that families just go back home during this because their husbands are pretty much non existent.  I thought… damn… here we go again.  More of this being “husband lonely.”  No family trips, no family dinners, daddy’s never there, no relief for me, and the missing my better half starts all over again.  BUT then Tara said that short little sentence and it was like BAM. Perspective.  Behind their missing each other was so much pride and gratitude for the good stuff in that situation.  There’s always something good.  Husbands would never choose to be away so much if it wasn’t for a super good reason!  Eric is going to save LOTS of lives in the future.  He’s bettering himself to better the world.  He is amazing, really. And here I am, lucky enough to be home with my kids and the house and having the privilege to support a super Soldier like that.  And Tara trades hubby time so they don’t have to deal with the stress of daycare and babysitters.  Others trade married time for financial freedom, healthcare for their family, making all the ends meet.

Being “husband lonely” then, is pretty much something that’s awesome! Even brag-worthy!! It’s kind of a sign that you and your family are a contributing, selfless, brave unit that doesn’t give up…. and no matter what, you try your hearts out to not only make it work, but to make it freaking awesome.  I miss my husband a lot when he’s gone and sometimes get really stressed taking care of our life by myself. But the pride I feel when I think about what he’s doing? It makes it all worth it.  So here’s what I’m going to do when times get rough up ahead:  When I start screaming out “Where the f*ck is Eric!?” I’ll actually answer that question.  Oh he’s currently learning how to treat a blast injury and prevent further complications.  Yeeeaaa that’s probably more important than what I currently need him for.  Go Eric.  Go me.  Get it together 🙂  So when you haven’t seen YOUR husband in what feels like days (or actually it has been days) remind yourself of where he is and why.  What is he doing that is preventing him from being with you at this moment.  Would you rather him be there? or would you rather him give that up and be with you? I think your answer to that will be enough to snap you back to reality.

Any who, thank you Tara for being your awesome self and I hope you don’t mind me blogging about you 🙂 If your badass self could inspire me, I figured you might help some others as well!

Have a happy day friends!

– Angela

From SECRET to CLOSED! Yay!!!

From SECRET to CLOSED! Yay!!!

Hi Oily friends and followers!!!! We just decided to change our Facebook group for Oils and Us from Secret to Closed!!! This means that we can now invite our friends and anyone interested in learning about essential oils into our discussion.  The group used to be secret and the only members were those who bought a starter kit and enrolled through the group.  I realize that it takes a lot of learning and a high level of comfort in order to make that huge jump into ordering your starter kit.  The life change really is pretty big!  I also found myself up late at night giggling with the group about using vodka in our recipes or sleeping in mini cribs with our tired babies.  I wished that all of our other friends could be in on our fun and togetherness even though they hadn’t committed to a Young Living membership yet.  So we made the change!

As our name says, we are invested in each other’s health, essential oil knowledge, oil success, and overall well-being! We are all old or new friends after all :).  Each new member will still have to be approved.  The group will ALWAYS remain a safe place where only friends come to grow and learn with each other.  Essential Oils will remain our primary focus.  The group will never be public.

So if you want to join in on the conversation, ask your questions, gain the support and momentum you need, or even quietly observe while you decide…. Just click Join.  You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!  See you there 🙂

The BEST DIY lip balm with essential oils!!

The BEST DIY lip balm with essential oils!!

Hi friends!!! Recently my mom and Aunt came to see us for my son’s 5th birthday (Party in the Park! Great, cheap birthday party idea…blog about that coming next!).  I recently got both of them to fall in love with my essential oils, so I knew they would LOVE making these lip balms! My aunt really enjoyed it, especially choosing which oils we were going to pair together.  We chose Peppermint & Orange, Grapefruit & Lemon, and we made 5 Purification sticks to treat cold sores and such.  It was our first time making these so we weren’t expecting stellar results… but SHOOT!!! These are great!  I gave some to my friends at Easter and they can’t stop talking about how much they rock.  If you’re looking for a great recipe… trust me… this one is it!  You can just use my combinations as a reference, but choose which oils you like best!

What you need:  (I bought all my stuff off of Amazon except for the EOs).

  1. 3T Beeswax
  2.  2T Coconut Oil
  3.  1T Shea Butter
  4.  20 empty lip balm tubes (save yourself the hassel of reading reviews on a million different empty tubes like these.   These ones are perfect, cheap, and they do not leak.  They’re clear so you can see how much you have left and you can dress them up with some cheap Target washi tape later)
  5.  10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  6.  10 drops Orange Essential Oil

These ingredients will make 20 tubes.  So if you want to make 10 tubes of one mix and 10 tubes of another blend, then just half the recipe.  That’s what we did! We had five tubes left over so those became our Purification treatment sticks.

What to do:

Add your beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter to a double boiler.  When it is completely melted, add in your essential oils and stir.  Use a syringe (a kids medicine dropper works great!) to transfer the mix from the double boiler to the lip balm tubes.  Fill to the top and place the cap on.  Let cool on the counter for 30 minutes and then transfer to the refrigerator for 30 minutes.  Then use, enjoy, and share!

NOTE:  We halved this recipe so we only used 5 drops of each essential oil.  If you’re doing a citrus blend like we did, I would suggest keeping the drops at 10 and 10.  Ours was pretty weak in flavor and I think its just because the citruses aren’t as strong as the peppermint per se.

You can mark the lids with sharpie and/or dress them up with some Washi tape.  That was my attempt lol I never claimed to be perfect! But it was good enough for my family and friends who just like getting free stuff 🙂

Clean up note:  Do not just stick your empty oil bowl in the sink and try to wash it.  It will be a mess.  When the bowl is warm, wipe it out thoroughly with a paper towel.  Then wash it in the sink…. a lesson I learned the hard way!

I hope you enjoy these as much as me and my friends are! Even my son Parker has claimed one as his own 🙂  Thanks for being here! Follow my group Oils & Us on Facebook to see what else we’re up to. And as always, we’d love for you to join us! Sign up HERE! with your premium starter kit and don’t forget to ask about this month’s incentives! We’re always giving something away so don’t miss it! 🙂  Happy Oiling!

ME! ❤

Fruit and Veggie Pizzas = Simple Sides Dishes!

Fruit and Veggie Pizzas = Simple Sides Dishes!

Hi Friends!!  We live in on-post housing on Fort Bragg and our house is pretty small.  Because of this we pretty much always attend BBQs and parties at other people’s houses.  I never get to be in charge of the easy part and get the hot dogs and buns…  We ALWAYS have to bring the sides!  There is the easy route with some chips and salsa or tubbed potato salad… but c’mon… I apparently thrive on chaos and busy-ness.  We always have to make something creative.  These pizzas we made today for our Easter celebration were a huge hit! Super inventive (well the fruit one was inventive at least), super easy, and we brought something that showed that we care 🙂  Let’s make pizza!

  1.  Pillsbury thin crust pizza crust in a tube
  2.  12 oz tub of cream cheese
  3.  1 packet of dry Hidden Valley Ranch mix
  4.  Whatever veggies you currently have in your fridge or that you enjoy (what I found in my fridge for our pizza was a half a cucumber, two carrots, sweet red and yellow peppers.)

To prepare:

Grease a baking sheet and roll out your thin crust.  Bake according to directions, but the Pillsbury is 18 minutes at 400 degrees.  Let it cool.  While it’s cooling, mix the cream cheese and ranch mix together.  Spread the ranch “sauce” all over your cooled crust going all the way to the edges.  Dice your veggies of choice into small cubes and sprinkle them evenly over the pizza.  Refrigerate until ready to serve and then cut into squares with a pizza cutter!

  1. One can of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls
  2. One tub of whipped cream cheese (we chose mixed berry flavor because I didn’t have any berries going on the pizza).
  3.  Whatever fruit you have in your kitchen or that you enjoy (what I found was an apple, a pineapple, and some cuties).

To prepare:

Grease a baking sheet and roll out your cinnamon rolls.  Ok so I asked my husband to get a crust for the fruit pizza and this is what he came up with.  It was kind of a pain in the neck to roll them all together, but the result was totally delicious.  I’m glad I toughed that part out!  Bake them according to directions, but the Pillsbury ones will bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.  let it cool.  While it’s cooling, dice up your fruit real small.  If you choose an apple or other fruit that turns brown make sure to toss it in a little lemon juice.  If you use oranges or pineapple or other real wet fruit, make sure to wick off the extra moisture with a paper towel like this:

If you don’t do this, your pizza might get a bit soupy!  Spread your cream cheese on the cinnamon roll crust and cover evenly with your fruits!

Here’s some more yummy pics!

Holy cow it works! Oven cleaning with Essential Oils!

Holy cow it works! Oven cleaning with Essential Oils!

Hi everybody! Spring cleaning = doing all the jobs that we put off because we hate and therefore the mess has become absolutely disgusting.  So I guess my oven COULD be worse, but we’ve only lived here for 5 months.  I pretty much suck at cooking and everything bubbles over (you think I would just start putting a cookie sheet under my baking stuff… but I don’t… I obviously refuse to learn from my mistakes lol).  So ANYWAYS…. I clean everything else in my house with essential oils, so why not the oven?  There was this pin that I came across on Pinterest and it looked promising.  I had to tweak it a bit to fit the ingredients I had on hand… but WOW!  This literally took no effort.  My arm was not cramping, I did not break a sweat, and there was not one powerful chemical used! 🙂  I’m pleasantly surprised….. definitely give it a try and make one Spring Cleaning task a little easier!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. 1 cup baking soda
  2. 1/2 washing soda (I used my Borax)
  3. 1/4 cup sea salt
  4. 1/2 white vinegar
  5. 10 drops Orange Essential Oil
  6. 10 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia Essential Oil
  7. a splash of water

In a large bowl combine the baking soda, washing soda, and sea salt.  Mix it all together.  Drop in your essential oils and then pour in the white vinegar (your kids will love that part! foam city!).  Mix it all together.  Then just add a little bit of water at a time until your mix is like a thin paste that you could spread. Open the oven door and spread it all over your gross areas so it looks like this:

We did this right before bed and let it sit overnight.  In the morning all I did was wipe off all the whiteness with a wet washcloth.  I had to put a little muscle into a few spots, but all in all if was pretty effortless.  And seriously look how clean it is!!

I am so stoked that this worked… makes me wanna do more Spring Cleaning!!! Well, almost…. 😉
